Worldwide Children Poverty and Well-Being facts

Starting from a statement I read in an Irish website http://www.examiner.ie , I digged further into this subject. Can it really be a special category in world wide reports named “Children Poverty”? Really?

Here it is:Irish Examiner: “…Ireland has the third highest suicide rate amongst young men of all OECD countries…”. So what happens in other OECD countries? A little further digging and I stepped on this report: Doing Better for Children.

Here are the country specific highlights:

Australia

Austria (in English and German)

Canada

France (in English and French)

Germany (in English); Pressemitteilung (in German)

Italy (in English and Italian)

Japan

Mexico (in English and Spanish)

New Zealand

Switzerland (in English and German)

United Kingdom

United States

Here you can see the data in various formats and presentation : http://stats.oecd.org/childwellbeing/

Also, from a rather wealthy country, Germany, we get this:

An OECD report on child welfare in member states has the Germans asking why, when they are spending so much money on their children, are one in six still living in relative poverty. Source.

So, is everybody affected? So, much wealth and still we have children kill themselves on poverty (not only but it seems this is a great reason). Even in advanced and wealthy countries things are bad?

Finally, I took a search in photo libraries to find a suitable photo for this subject. Guess what… The photos presented only children from 3rd world countries… Strange (again).

Do we need to look deeper? What is causing this? How can it happen?
