Is Google Wave the new Skype “killer”?

I heard about google wave from the web and I went to see their looooooooong video (they say too that is long). After passing introductory comments I started seeing this guy and the girl that actually build this thing. The same 2 who are behind google maps you know…

From the first minutes of their presentation I got the feeling that this is going to be huge. It looks like a all-in-one tool. And in browser too.
At that point (but really hit me 2 days ago) I got that I had infront of me the tool that would solve my hands in terms of collaboration. Of course as long as:
  • All who I need/want to connect have googlewave.com accounts.
  • Wish to let go of  Live, Yahoo!, Skype, AIM, Trillian , etc etc. This could be easy if this tools is supported by all.

As a businessman and member of society I experience the google products in the long run. I do not use all of them but most of them are very useful. Google seems to play it simple and create value at the right time (of course pitfalls occur) when things seem mature. And imagine all you see when you hit google.com is a search form. No fancy website Yahoo! or MSN or other. Simple things… Yet, at the right moment it strikes. And when it does is huge. Like Adwords, Google Maps, and this time Google Wave.  Sitting right there monitoring trends and searches, actually sees what the audience is doing online and what they want and crave for. Then strikes again. This is huge!

Skype is a very useful tool. Actually I have disengaged all other Messengers and use only this. Its all in one. Yet it is not very good in terms of collaboration. I use it mostly for short team discussions and calls. It seems to support 3rd party tools for collaboration, etc but when I installed them (through Skype) I got into lot of trouble as I experienced cut-offs, laptop (sony vaio) stuck, blue screens, etc (and not because of ex-vista…). I tried Trillian and paid for an account there but actually i found out that it is not user friendly at all. It acts weird with Skype. I had to keep skype messenger open for Trillian to be able to see it! and i kept having duplicate discussions. So in a few words you see that Skype was (and until Wave gets out of Beta) my preference.

But now Google Wave seems to rock the world. I am not sure how many people have actually understood that. So unless Skype gets more friendly in collaboration terms and implements all these wonderful tricks Google Wave has (even as a beta), and hopefully Google doesn’t mess it up, I will shift to the last one.

In business its great to have a tool that solves simple daily things and lets us the users to have great experiences. Let’s see what happens. I am a pc and not a mac but this time Google Wave catches all platforms!

By the way I have 16 15 12  Google Wave invitations left. So if anyone want to get invited just say it in a comment through this post!
